What can a Daddy say to honor his daughter who chose to put herself in the world of nanophontonics without any parental encouragement? Maybe it started with the laser absorption spectroscopy demo I did her fifth grade class? Only a few of the guys seemed interested at the time, but now, drawing on her undergrad experiences at Rochester, BU, Harvard, and Eos Photonics, Julie is a third year doctoral candidate at Arizona, becoming an exemplar Woman of Optical Sciences.
