Michaela and I connected as undergraduates via poetry at the MPI-K in Heidelberg. For her PhD, she started in an all-male research group at the U of Rochester, NY, forging a path, despite eternal self doubt, with smarts and hard work, soon attracting more female students. A decade later she still relentlessly refines her craft, not only inspiring her own students, male and female, but also myself to become an ever better physicist with a deep appreciation for the value of diverse research teams.
