Millie Dresselhaus, 1930-2017 was an inspiring figure of 20th century and 21st century physics. The recipient of both the US National Medal of Science and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, along with many other awards, she was well known for her work in thermoelectrics and in novel forms of carbon. The latter work, particularly her contributions to the understanding of carbon nanotubes, earned her the sobriquet "queen of carbon." She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a delight to know.
