Prof. Carolyn Aita was my Ph.D. advisor in the Materials Science and Engineering department. In addition to learning from her the process and science behind sputter deposition of transition metal oxides and how to characterize thin film coatings, I also learned from Carolyn numerous life lessons. Of most importance are: she was my first role model of someone enjoying a successful, happy, and fulfilling career while also having a family; having confidence and compassion; loving what you do.
