Dr. Reedyk was my undergrad thesis supervisor, summer research employer, and optics course instructor. The fact that she was (is!) the only female professor in the physics department was part of who she was to us. She never made anything of it; but to me it was a "big deal". As a mentor and supervisor, Maureen is generous and kind. She knows when a student needs freedom to explore and when they would most benefit from more structure. I now consciously try to emulate her supervisory style.
