Luis had a profound influence on me both as a physicist and as a human being. From my first years in his lab he helped me learn to push hard on technical problems while developing the patience to overcome many setbacks. To his great credit he encouraged me when I decided to pursue a path outside academia. His lessons in diligence, creativity, and humility are with me every day.
