Honoring Bob Laudise
Bell Labs

Submitted by Joseph Kolis Clemson University

Bob was kind enough to host me at Bell Labs during my sabbatical leave in 1996-97. He was nominally retired at the time but still worked full time, and was kind enough to teach me all I could learn about hydrothermal single crystal growth. I was not trained as a crystal grower or a material scientist, so his patient efforts inspired a major change in my career direction. Bob was a wonderful mentor and a classy person. He loved what he did and was truly the epitome of a gentleman and a scholar.
