Honoring Dr. Douglas C. Sinclair

Submitted by Harvey M. Spencer, DRS Technologies

Dr. Doug Sinclair was my Professor during sophmore year at the Univof Rochester and gave me my first look into the world of computer lens design and set my career payh. We began designing and optimizing the performance of lens designs on the school's IBM 4341 computer using the program he wrote called FLAIR. He also wrote routines that would raytrace real rays on the first HP programmable hand calculator, truly an exercise in concise coding due to the limited keystroke memory.
