I want to thank Dan Grischkowsky for introducing me to the science of femtosecond laser pulses in his research group at IBM Yorktown where I spent two years as a postdoc (1988 - 89). Dan’s mentorship and the pleasant interaction with him evolved in the discovery of a simple and elegant method for broadband free-space THz time-domain spectroscopy. My experiments in Dan’s lab opened the door to a wide range of THz measurements that worked much better than anticipated – an unforgettable experience.
