Honoring Prof Julio C Gutierrez-Vega

I was fortunate to have met Julio as my lecturer almost 20 years ago. He first introduced me to optics in an undergraduate course on wave guides and propagation and years later to diffractive optics, which eventually became my main field of study. Very few people have influenced my career choices to the extent that Julio has. However, he has not only been a professional mentor, but also a personal source of motivation. He is an extraordinary researcher and educator.
