Professor Ajoy Ghatak, Fellow OSA and SPIE has been an outstanding mentor and a teacher par excellence at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi India. I consider myself fortunate to have him as a mentor and guide. His insistence on rigour in any scientific discussions has been very instructive and educative for all of us who were his graduate students and some like me his colleagues later at IIT Delhi. I wish him his continued passionate involvement in pedagogy in Optics and Photonics at large.
