I spent two years (1985-1987) in the lab of Prof. Y.Ron Shen in Berkeley. It was a great research environment doing groundbreaking research on nonlinear optical probing of surfaces and interfaces. Ron was a superb mentor and no matter how busy he was he always had time to discuss anything with his group members. Ron is over 80 now and officially retired, but the group has remained close and gets together for Ron's birthday every 5 years!
