Honoring Dr A. Francis Turner
Bausch & Lomb Inc / U of Arizona

Submitted by Frank Sulzbach Retired from Texas Instruments/Raytheon

"Doc" was one of the earliest United States pioneers in Optical Thin Films. Educated in Berlin in the mid 1930's, he met many notables in the fields of science. From the late 1930's until his retirement from Bausch & Lomb in 1970, he mentored many including Ivan Epstein, Peter Berning, Paul Leurgens and others of less renown. He was instrumental in many commercial and military applications of Optical Films. He had a quiet manner and intuitive feel for symmetry in science. He is missed by many.
