I had the great good fortune of joining the Faculty of UofT when Peter Smith headed the Photonics Group in ECE. Peter was generous with his time, a very engaged mentor. Among many fond memories, one stands out: of Peter leading the crafting of a grant proposal we worked on together, Peter patiently sitting with me to discuss overall strategy, and specific tactics, that have shaped my approach to grant-writing ever since. Thank you Peter for being an inspiring and compassionate mentor!
