Why the Summer School
In 2011, Dr. Siegman served on the organizing committee for OSA's first summer school program—International Summer Session on Lasers and Their Applications. The event was co-sponsored by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), and was a great success with 100 students representing 13 different countries arriving at the CIOMP campus for a week long program of lectures, networking opportunities, poster presentations and research sharing.
This 2011 program was a tremendous success, largely due to Dr. Siegman's personal involvement—as it turned out this was his last OSA volunteer activity. The participants, along with the presenters, gave the highest evaluation ratings to the program and strongly encouraged OSA to continue the program for several more years.
We believe this school is a fitting way to honor both the tremendous contributions Dr. Siegman made to the scientific community and his passion for teaching.
Foundation Chairman's Breakfast - During the Chairman's Breakfast at FiO a few of Tony's colleagues shared their stories of Tony and the importance of this summer school program.
The OSA Foundation would like to thank our Lead Contributors for their support of this program.
