General Fund

The General Fund (unrestricted) provides resources to award program grants annually to support activities that inspire the next generation of leaders in the optics and photonics community.  Grants awarded help the Foundation achieve its mission to:
  • Advance youth science education
  • Provide professional development opportunities
  • Fund needs based student travel grants

OSA Student Chapter Fund

The OSA Student Chapter program benefits an international network of over 300 chapter and has impacted thousands of students since it began in 1982.  The program is a worldwide resource for the optics and photonics student community.
 

What your contribution can do:

$100 - provides funding for a student chapter social function
$250 - provides funding for a student chapter recruitment event
$500 - provides a competition or award stipend
$750 - provides a professional development program










 




Student Travel Grants

The OSA Foundation provides travel grants for students who study in developing nations so they may attend OSA technical meetings.  These meetings help students advance their studies and expand the professional network.

What your contribution can do:

Every $1,000 we raise is turned into an international experience for graduate students studying in a developing nation.  This opportunity will shape their future.







Over the last decade, we have awarded over 245 travel grants through this program to students in 38 developing nations around the world.






Youth Education Outreach Fund

The Youth Education Outreach Fund provides funding to support youth science education resources to underserved populations around the world.  Demonstration kits, games and cost effective lessons are just some of the ways in which this fun supports the community.
 

What your contribution can do:

$250 - Funds a Youth Education Outreach Activity
$350 - Provides optics demonstration materials for 50 students
$500 - Provides youth science materials for 6 classrooms






 

Over the last 5 years the OSA Foundation has awarded 305 Youth Science Education Grants impacting an estimated 10,500 students in 34 countries around the world.




Special Initiatives

The OSA Foundation continues to grow by introducing programs that support the leaders of tomorrow. We do this by establishing new Endowments, Awards and Scholarships. Below is a list of current fundraising campaigns.  We hope you consider supporting one of these programs today.

Tingye Li Innovation Award
This award will honor the global impact Dr. Tingye Li made to the field of optics and photonics and recgonize top-performing youth professionals int he optical communications field who haev demonstrated innovation in their research submitted for consideration during the OFC Conference. 

Siegman International School on Lasers
An international summer school in honor of Anthony E. Siegman readies students from around the world for a career in science through a week-long program of lectures, networking opportunities, poster presentations and research sharing.

 

 

You can contribute any amount to support OSA Foundation programs, online or by mail/fax, and it takes just a moment of your time.  


For a limited time ALL donations will be matched 100% by OSA with a donation to the Foundation, allowing your gift to count twice.
