This report summarizes a workshop hosted by OSA Industry Development Associates (OIDA) in collaboration with the Center for Integrated Access Networks (CIAN) and sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), held on 22 March 2015. The workshop was the fifth in a series featuring optical networking chaired by OIDA and CIAN and sponsored by NSF.

This year’s workshop addressed the emerging topic of disaggregation of data center networks with regard to photonic components: How can the optics enable a migration to disaggregation?  What does a photonics‐enabled disaggregated data center look like? What performance metrics/requirements are important for photonics in disaggregated data
centers?

The report provides the findings of the workshop, including a table of target specifications for interconnects that would enable a disaggregated data center network architecture.
