Outstanding Young Professional Award

Outstanding OSA Young Professional Volunteer Recognition

First awarded in 2012, OSA annually honors an Outstanding Young Professional who has made a substantial contribution to both OSA and their community as a volunteer.

The recognition is presented annually during the February OSA Winter Leadership Meeting to an applicant judged to be an outstanding example of the Young Professionals Program.  The recipient will receives a certificate, travel reimbursement to attend the meeting and an invitation to participate in the Member & Education Services Council meeting. 

In 2015, two award recipients were honored:

Dr. Alvaro Casas Bedoya, University of Sydney
Alvaro Casas Bedoya has served on the Member and Education Services (MES) Council where has reviewed grants and awards, steered programming and goals for the Membership Department and participated on the Senior Member Advisory Committee. He is a strong advocate for students through his work as the Chapter Advisor to the University of Sydney OSA Student Chapter and as the MES contact for the International OSA Network of Students (IONS) Planning Committee.

Dr. Antigone Marino, Italian Research Council
Antigone Marino has participated in many Young Professionals activities including grants and awards review and the Student Leadership Planning Committee. She was a founding member of the IONS project and has since continued her efforts to promote OSA and science education around the world, which has led to her appointment as Chair of the EPS Young Minds Project.
