Fellow Travelling Lecturer Program

Grants

OSA Fellow Lecturer Program Grants

The goal of this program is to foster optics and photonics in developing nations by increasing interaction between OSA and the optics communities in these areas.

OSA’s International Council awards approximately six (6) grants each year to OSA Fellows visiting and lecturing in developing nations. View a list of eligible nations.

Grants typically range from $1,000 - $2,000 USD and are intended to help defray travel costs. It is expected that the host organization(s) will cover local expenses.

Applicants are encouraged to include a wide range of activities in their itineraries. Generally, these grants will not be awarded to support international conference attendance. Letters from host organizations should be submitted with your application.

Successful applicants will be asked to serve as “OSA Ambassadors" during their trip. A trip report must be submitted within 30 days of an approved visit (a report template will be provided).  Fellows may also be asked to submit a short article for Optics and Photonics News (OPN).

The International Council will evaluate applications based on several factors including: the value to OSA, alignment with OSA’s strategic goals, value to local community, trip duration and similarity to recent trips (view a list of recent Fellow Travelling Lecturer locations).

Application Deadlines

The next deadline for applications is 19 September 2014. Decisions will be sent the week of 19 October 2014. Compelling applications may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis before this deadline.
