Stewart Wills Named Editor and Content Director of Optics & Photonics News
WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2013—The Optical Society (OSA) announced today that Stewart Wills has joined the organization as the new editor and content director for its monthly news magazine, Optics & Photonics News (OPN). Wills is wholly responsible for the society’s magazine portfolio and will oversee its editorial strategy, content, artistic direction and production.Before joining OSA, Wills was the editorial director of web and new media at Science magazine. There he implemented a highly successful weekly podcast, new video initiatives, and the journal’s first entry in social media channels. Prior to joining Science, Wills was a freelance writer and editor as well as a securities analyst. He currently produces podcasts and a microblog for the Society for Scholarly Publishing’s The Scholarly Kitchen. Wills has a Ph.D. in earth and environmental sciences, with an emphasis in geology and geophysics, from Columbia University, a B.S. from Rutgers University and a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
