George Bayz Named Treasurer of OSA

George BayzORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 9, 2013—The Optical Society (OSA) Board of Directors voted to confirm the appointment of George Bayz as Treasurer, an officer role of the Society, starting Jan. 1, 2014. Bayz, who is currently a member of the OSA Board of Directors, will replace Stephen D. Fantone, whose term ends on Dec.  31, 2013. As Treasurer, Bayz will be responsible for chairing Finance, Audit and Investment Subcommittee governance groups, as well as participating in various strategic roles.

“George has broad and extensive business experience, and has served in the treasurer’s role on other non-profit boards. His active involvement as Chair of OSA’s Corporate Associates Committee has demonstrated his commitment and ability to serve effectively as a Board member,” said Elizabeth Rogan, OSA CEO. “On behalf of the Board, I congratulate George on his appointment and look forward to working with him in his role as Treasurer.”

Bayz has more than 18 years of senior management experience in high-technology firms and more than 37 years of business experience. He is currently vice president and general manager of the Optical Solutions Group at Synopsys. Prior to Synopsys’ acquisition of Optical Research Associates (ORA®) in 2010, Bayz was president and CEO of ORA, and had served on the ORA Board of Directors and Audit Committee since 1999. Bayz has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a J.D. from Loyola Marymount University. He is a member of the California Bar Association and is a certified public accountant (inactive) in California.
