CLEO: 2011 Conference Showcases Lasers & Electro-Optics Innovation, From Breakthrough Scientific Research to State of the Art Commercial Applications
CLEO: 2011 Expands Applications Programming
WASHINGTON, September 7 – The co-sponsors of the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO) and the Quantum Electronics Laser Science Conference (QELS) today announced that CLEO: 2011 has been redesigned to present the full range of topics from fundamental laser science to photonic applications and products. From early stage research to leading-edge applications, CLEO: 2011 builds on the long-established CLEO/QELS conference and its world-renowned peer-reviewed program. CLEO: 2011 offers high quality content in five core event elements featuring breakthrough research and applied innovations in ultrafast lasers, energy-efficient optics, biophotonics and more. CLEO: 2011 takes place May 1 – 6, 2011 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
“Laser science and applications have expanded to include many new areas in recent years, so it was only fitting that CLEO: 2011 reflect the ever growing field,” said Tim Carrig, CLEO: 2011 Science and Innovations general co-chair and CLEO: Applications and Technology general chair. “CLEO: 2011 continuously strives to be at the forefront of the industry and with these additions to the programming, I believe that the conference will prove itself to be the must-attend event of the year.”
Of particular note is the new CLEO: Applications & Technology Conference which will explore the intersection of advanced photonic technologies and product commercialization, delving deep into existing and evolving business applications. Topics will include innovative components and systems, and applications of lasers and electro-optics technology.
“To complement the significant contributions to the field made through the signature CLEO and QELS conferences, is the new CLEO: Applications & Technology Conference which will highlight new and innovative applications and emerging products,” said James Tunnell, CLEO: Applications & Technology program chair. “The content of this conference will be of particular interest to commercial R&D and design engineering professionals and will provide essential information about emerging business applications.”
Additional details on the expanded CLEO: 2011 programming and event elements are as follows:
CLEO: QELS – Fundamental Science: Continues to be the premier venue for discussion of basic research in optical and laser physics-related areas. Topics will include optics, modern spectroscopy, optical materials, quantum information science, nanophotonics, and metamaterials.
CLEO: Science & Innovations: Covers applied research and innovations in lasers, optical materials, and photonic devices. Topics to be covered include laser processing of materials, terahertz technologies, high-field and ultrafast optics, and biophotonics.
CLEO: Applications & Technology: Explores the intersection of academic research with product commercialization. Topics will include innovative components and systems, and applications of lasers and electro-optics technology in areas such as biomedical devices for diagnostics and therapeutics, high power laser systems for defense, environmental sensing, laser applications in energy conservation and other applications.
CLEO: Market Focus: Centers on commercial developments in the optics, photonics, and laser industry. Topics will include energy, industrial lasers, defense/security, and biophotonics. CLEO: Market Focus is open to both expo and conference attendees at no charge. Also on the floor will be the Technology Transfer Program which features the latest institutional research ready to be adapted for commercial implementation.
CLEO: Expo: Exhibition of leading edge products and services from companies around the world. This year CLEO: Expo has been broadened to engage customers from top research institutions and emerging commercial firms, all representing the fastest growing markets in optics and photonics.
