OSA’s Photobiomodulation Incubator: Articulating a Common Mission for Today’s Research

Join us for a discussion on the dissemination of scientifically sound research in Photobiomodulation (PBM) also known as low-light-level therapy

WASHINGTON – The Optical Society (OSA) is hosting a follow-up Incubator to last year’s meeting on August 31 - September 1, 2015.  This meeting will bring together researchers in the fields of light-based medical research and therapeutic devices to discuss the future of photobiomodulation (PBM) in healthcare. The aim of the Incubator meeting is to find a common mission for PBM research and its real world applications. It will bring experts – including researchers, clinicians, leaders from industry and government agencies - to discuss the history, current status and future of the technology along with key clinical applications including ophthalmology, cognitive functions, sports medicine and wound healing.

“Every year the number of new discoveries in the area of photobiomodulation increase because the value of PBM is simple in its truest form. Light is nontoxic, clean and easy to use. Despite the simplicity, there are many variables to be addressed to ensure effective treatment for patients,” stated Donald Patthoff, Academy of Laser Dentistry. “Our objective for this meeting is to provide guidelines for the healthcare community to incorporate PBM into their standards of practice and care.”
