Optics and photonics may one day revolutionize computer technology with the promise of light-speed calculations. Storing light as memory, however, requires devices known as microresonators, an emerging technology that cannot yet meet the demands of computing.

The Optical Society (OSA) today published a special Focus Issue on LCMs for Photonic Applications in its open-access journal Optical Materials Express.

The following highlights summarize key research recently published in Biomedical Optics Express, the Optical Society's (OSA) principal outlet for serving the biomedical optics community with rapid, open-access, peer-reviewed papers related to optics, photonics and imaging in the life sciences.

The OSA Foundation is pleased to announce the most recent student grant winners and scholarship recipients, recognized during the OSA Foundation Chairman’s Breakfast, held during the Optical Society’s (OSA) 95th Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics (FiO) 2011 in San Jose, Calif.

The Optical Society (OSA) today praised the U.S. Congress for the passage of H.R. 2112, the minibus appropriations bill for Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (T-HUD); Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration; and Commerce, Justice and Science.
