Steering a beam of 'virtual particles' enables team of scientists to manipulate ultra-small-scale particles in real time.

The Optoelectronics Industry Development Association (OIDA) announced today that Ganesh Gopalakrishnan has joined its staff as executive technical director.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a new imaging system that enables high-speed, three-dimensional (3-D) imaging of microscopic pre-cancerous changes in the esophagus or colon.

The OSA Foundation (OSAF) is pleased to announce Vyas Akondi of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, India, as the recipient of the 2011 Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Student Travel Grant for the Imaging and Applied Optics: OSA Optics and Photonics Congress. The grant was started by Optical Research Associates (ORA®), now the Optical Solutions Group at Synopsys, as a memorial to ORA's former President and Chief Executive Officer Robert S. Hilbert.

The first-ever OSA-CIOMP summer session will provide an opportunity for physics students to further their education in the field of optics and photonics by interacting with world-renowned instructors, local professors and fellow students. Participants will also be able to present their research and receive feedback from those in the field of laser science.
