  • The Optical Society today announced that Elizabeth Nolan has been promoted to chief publishing officer. In this new role, Nolan will oversee the society’s publishing program, including leading the development of comprehensive strategies for OSA's publishing activities and directing the marketing, sales, and operations of OSA's entire portfolio of peer-reviewed journals, electronic products, and special programs.


  • 2010 is proving to be a tremendous year, with innovative products lending a hand in the gulf oil spill disaster to many OSA corporate members being recognized as leaders not only in the field of optics and photonics but also in their business practices.


  • The Optical Society is pleased to announce its 14 flagship, partnered and co-published peer-reviewed journals continue to provide the most citations and articles in the field of optics and photonics, according to the recently released Thomson Reuters 2009 Journal Citation Reports® (JCR). Combined, OSA’s journals make up nearly 40% of the total citations received in 2009 and 35% of all articles published in the JCR’s optics category—both more than any other publisher in this category.


  • The International OSA Network of Students (IONS) will be hosting IONS-8 in Moscow, Russia, June 21 to 25 at the N.E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University and the International Laser Center of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University.


  • The Optical Society (OSA) today announced the winners of the LaserFest Laser Graffiti Video Contest. OSA Student Chapters from universities around the world entered the contest as part of LaserFest, the scientific community’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the demonstration of the first working laser.
