The Optical Society (OSA) today announced the launch of PrismTM, its new web-based submission and manuscript tracking system for its suite of scholarly journals. When fully implemented, Prism will include customized modules for authors, reviewers and editors and will replace OSA's current system for handling the peer review process.

The Optical Society (OSA) is pleased to name the 2013 recipients of its prestigious awards and medals. These award winners—hailing from eight different countries—join an esteemed group of past recipients recognized for their unwavering commitment to the field of optics.

Terahertz (THz) radiation, a slice of the electromagnetic spectrum that occupies the middle ground between microwaves and infrared light, is rapidly finding important uses in medical diagnostics, security, and scientific research. As scientists and engineers find evermore practical uses for this form of radiation, questions persist about its potential human health risks.

Members of the Optical Society (OSA) from around the United States are on Capitol Hill today to speak with lawmakers about science policy issues, federal investments in research and development (R&D) and proposed funding levels in the upcoming FY 2013 appropriations bills.

Next week, leaders from telecom, datacom and computing will convene for the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC)—the premier optical communications event where experts from industry and academia share their results, experiences, and insights on the future of hot topic areas such as cloud and datacenter networking, software-defined networks, photonic integration and more. More than 12,000 attendees and an exhibit with 550 companies are expected.
