    The organizers of the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) announced today that the 2011 show, taking place in Los Angeles March 8 – 10, will be 20 percent larger than last year, featuring new programming for service providers and data center operators, and more exhibitors filling a larger space, alongside its core show floor programs and activities.

    The Optical Society (OSA) and the IEEE Photonics Society are pleased to announce that David F. Welch, co-founder, executive vice president, and chief strategy officer at Infinera, is the recipient of the 2011 John Tyndall Award. Welch is being recognized for "seminal contributions to photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and semiconductor lasers deployed in fiber optic communication systems around the world."

    New Scholarship Planned in Honor of Boris Stoicheff

    One of the pioneering figures in the history of spectroscopy and non-linear optics, Boris Stoicheff, passed away last year. To honor his memory, the OSA Foundation (OSAF) and the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) have launched a fundraising campaign to establish a graduate student scholarship in his name.
