The bipartisan Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act (RAMI), in the $1.1 trillion FY2015 Omnibus Appropriations bill, passed the House on December 11 and subsequently passed the Senate on December 13.

As reported in The Optical Society’s (OSA) new high-impact journal Optica, a team of researchers from the Netherlands has harnessed the power of quantum mechanics to create a fraud-proof method for authenticating a physical “key” that is virtually impossible to thwart.

Professor of Engineering at the University of Southern California, is named the recipient of the 2015 John Tyndall Award.

Peter E. Toschek is the recipient of the Herbert Walther Award for his for his pioneering experiments to laser cooling and his contributions to the understanding of the principles of laser spectroscopy.

The International OSA Network of Students (IONS) will host IONS-Asia 6 in Kharagpur, India Dec. 10-12.
