OSA has transformed its publishing enterprise with the launch of its redesigned content platform, OSA Publishing

The CLEO/Laser Focus World Innovation Awards recognize outstanding companies that have made major contributions to advancing the field of optics and photonics through recently launched products and services.

A deep-sea near-infrared laser-based sensor, utilizing off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy, was enhanced to achieve in situ sensing dual isotope sensing of both fluid and bubble samples.

The Optical Society (OSA) today expressed its condolences at the loss of John N. Howard, past president of OSA and founding editor of the journal Applied Optics.

Researchers from Nottingham Trent University's School of Science and Technology have partnered with the National Gallery in London to develop an instrument capable of non-invasively capturing subsurface details from artwork at a high resolution. Their setup, published in an Optics Express paper, will allow conservators and conservation scientists to more effectively peek beneath the surface of paintings and artifacts to learn not only how the artist built up the original composition, but also what coatings have been applied to it over the years.
