CLEO: 2011, the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, is the premier international forum for scientific and technical optics—from fundamental laser science to photonic applications and products. CLEO: 2011 builds on the long-established CLEO/QELS conference and its world-renowned peer-reviewed program. CLEO: 2011 offers high-quality content in five core event elements featuring breakthrough research and applied innovations in ultrafast lasers, energy-efficient optics, quantum electronics, biophotonics and more.

The International OSA Network of Students (IONS) will host IONS-9 in Salamanca, Spain, April 7-8 at the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL). IONS-9 features technical and professional development programming for students in the field of optics and photonics.

In a unique program designed to help organizations build stronger relationships with OSA’s Student Chapters, Coherent, Inc., one of the world’s leading providers of lasers and laser-based solutions, is offering financial support to six Chapters in Brazil, China, and India. The sponsorship, part of the OSA Foundation’s (OSAF) “Adopt a Student Chapter Program,” will also allow Student Chapter members to build relationships with professional staff at Coherent, Inc.

The OSA Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of its first-ever Photo and Video Contest, which celebrated the achievements of OSA Foundation-supported educational outreach programs and activities across the globe.

Elizabeth Rogan, CEO of the Optical Society (OSA) today issued the following statement regarding the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan: "The OSA Board and staff have been watching the news of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in Japan with great concern and sorrow these past few days.
