The Optical Society to Host Incubator Meeting on Integrated Photonics in the Mid-IR

Meeting will serve as a platform for exploring the optical, electrical and mechanical processes will enable new applications

WASHINGTON – The Optical Society (OSA) will host an Integrated Photonics in the Mid-IR incubator  meeting 20-22 May at OSA’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. This Incubator will include invited talks, moderated discussions and ample informal networking opportunities for professionals in the field of photonics and optics. Over the course of the meeting, attendees will explore the optical, electrical, and mechanical processes that must be integrated onto a photonic chip to develop a chip-based architecture that will enable new applications.

“Advances in new modes of infrared sensing has caused a need to discuss the potential impacts of generating light in mid-IR,” said Brandon Shaw, US Naval Research Laboratory and one of the meeting hosts. “The Incubator will provide an opportunity to discuss the technological advances as well as the new challenges that have arisen from the potential impact of the chip based architecture versus traditional means to accomplish the same.”
Featuring discussions of spectroscopic chemical sensing on a chip, chips with either in-plane and out-of-plane beam steering, and applications for integrated photonic chips in the mid-wave.
