OSA Incubator on Subwavelength Photonics

OSA Incubator on Subwavelength Photonics

WASHINGTON — The Optical Society (OSA) will host an Incubator meeting on “Subwavelength Photonics,” on Thursday, 22 September and Friday, 23 September 2016 at the American Geophysical Union in Washington, DC, USA.  This Incubator will focus on the controlling of light flow in optical materials structured on a subwavelength scale. Many accomplishments have been made in this exciting field, from the subwavelength index engineering in integrated optics to high-index-contrast gratings. The goal is to establish new directions for the development of these emerging photonics structures and search for new applications that would be enabled by these structures.

“Our goal with this OSA Incubator is to evaluate different solutions of controlling flow of light in optical materials structured at subwavelength scale,” stated Pavel Cheben, Incubator host and Senior Research Officer, National Research Council (NRC), Canada. “Indeed, much progress has been made in this area in recent years, including metamaterials, photonic crystals, nanoplasmonics and all-dielectric nanostructures, and we hope that our meeting will help unlock exciting new opportunities that future holds in this fast progressing field.”
