OSA Incubator on Emerging Connections in Quantum and Classical Optics

OSA Incubator on Emerging Connections in Quantum and Classical Optics

WASHINGTON — The Optical Society (OSA) will host an Incubator meeting on “Emerging Connections in Quantum and Classical Optics,” on Monday, 7 November and Tuesday, 8 November 2016 in Washington, DC, USA.  This Incubators goals of these meeting are two-fold. First, the meeting looks to articulate what features of optics are classical and which are quantum. Meeting participants will discuss concepts, such as entanglement, polarization and complementarity, and understand what roles they have to play in optics.  Second, the program will serve as a bridge by connecting research communities that sit at the intersection of the domains of classical coherence theory, vector and structured light beams, and quantum optics.
Questions to be discussed include:
  • What is the meaning and value of entanglement in classical and quantum optics?
  • What are appropriate measures to quantify coherence?
  • Can coherence be shared between different optical beam degrees of freedom?
  • Are new resources available in classical optics by making connections to quantum optics?
  • How closely can classical methods come to quantum-like information processing efficacy?
WHAT: Emerging Connections in Quantum and Classical Optics
WHEN: Monday, 7 November and Tuesday, 8 November 2016
TIME: 8 am on Monday, 7 November 2016
