OSA Future of Microscopy Incubator: Merging Adaptive and Computational Imaging

EDINBURGH, Scotland — The Optical Society (OSA) will host its first international Incubator meeting at The Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland, Monday, 12 December and Tuesday, 13 December 2016.  The program Future Microscopy: Merging Adaptive and Computational Imaging, will look at the increasing role of computational and adaptive imaging in microscopy. Attendees will discuss design principles in microscopy today and work to determine which emerging techniques have the potential to benefit the optics community.

Topics to be discussed:
  • What are the key technologies that should be rolled out to end users immediately and how do we best get collaboration with them?
  • How do we best compromise between generality and efficiency?
  • What are algorithm weaknesses that need to be addressed?
  • What are the expected limitations of the techniques as currently implemented?
  • Are these limited by physics, engineering or computational complexity?
  • How do we quantify image quality and resolution when these are defined by the complete imaging process?
HOSTED BY: Tomas Cizmar, University of Dundee, Dundee Scotland
Susan Cox, King's College London, London, England
Brian Patton, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland

Meeting Patrons
OSA is pleased to be joined by SU2P on this exciting program. SU2P is a program between the Universities of Strathclyde, St Andrews, Heriot-Watt, Glasgow and Edinburgh, together with Stanford University, collaborating with local industries to build enduring relationships which form the basis of an international network that works towards sustaining the economic impact of photonics in both the UK and US.

In addition to support from SU2P, the following institutions have provided funds for this Incubator Meeting:  Boston Micromachines, M Squared, ViAUX, ZEISS.
