The Optical Society to Host an Incubator Meeting on Levitated Optomechanics

Leaders from academia, industry and government to discuss innovative nano-optomechanic technologies and their importance for the future of research and advancement

WASHINGTON – The Optical Society (OSA) will host an incubator meeting on Levitated Optomechanics on Thursday, 3 December 2015 and Friday, 4 December 2015 at the OSA headquarters. The purpose of this incubator meeting will be to discuss the innovative technologies surrounding nano-optomechanics and will seek to address the many questions surrounding optically levitated nano-particle systems.  Sample questions to be addressed at the meeting include:

  1. What new theoretical challenges are presented in understanding this nonconventional nano-optomechanical platform?
  2. What are the prospects for hybrid quantum systems based on this modality?
  3. How can we push these mesoscopic systems to the quantum regime and explore non-classicality, the quantum-classical boundary and collapse theories?
WHAT: Levitated Optomechanics
WHEN: Thursday, 3 December 2015 and Friday, 4 December 2015
TIME: 8 AM on 3 December 2015 (please refer to the OSA incubator page  for all time listings to this meeting)
HOSTED BY: Peter Barker, University College, London, UK
Mishkat Bhattacharya, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY, USA
Nick Vamivakas, University of Rochester, Institute of Optics, Rochester, NY, USA
