OSA Student Members Gather in Turkey for IONS Conference on Optics
WASHINGTON, July 1, 2014–The International OSA Network of Students (IONS®) will host the IONS-15 Ankara Conference at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, July 2–5. The conference, organized by the Bilkent University OSA Student Chapter and the Middle East Technical University OSA Student Chapter, will feature technical sessions and programming for graduate students in the field of optics and photonics. The Optical Society (OSA) sponsors the event.The IONS-NA program includes invited speaker presentations from:
- Philip Russell, OSA President-elect, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Germany
- Phillip Stahl, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, USA
- Charles M. Falco, University of Arizona, USA
- Giovanni Volpe, Bilkent University, Turkey
- Raşit Turan, Middle East Technical University, Turkey
- Fatih Ömer İlday, Bilkent University, Turkey
Since its inception in 2006 at OSA’s Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics (FiO), 36 IONS Conferences have been held all over the world, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. The meetings are independently managed by OSA Student Chapters and are designed to give young scientists a way to connect and collaborate with the global optics and photonics community. OSA supports IONS events through guest lecturer funding, travel grants, administrative and marketing support and event funding. More information is available on the IONS website.
