OSA Student Members Gather in Kharagpur for India’s IONS-Asia 6 Conference on Optics
WASHINGTON, Dec. 9, 2014–The International OSA Network of Students (IONS) will host IONS-Asia 6 in Kharagpur, India Dec. 10-12. The conference, organized by the OSA Student Chapter of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKGP), offers a plenary talk, invited speakers, and oral and poster presentations by the students in various areas concerning the field of optics and photonics. The Optical Society (OSA) is the primary sponsor of the event.
The program for IONS-Asia 6 Kharagpur features several invited speakers including:

- “Nanoengineered Metamaterials and an Optical Tale of Seduction and Worse”

- “Evolutionary Dynamics as a Model for a Laser Behavior Near Threshold”

- “Vorticity of the Scattered Optical Vortices”
Since its inception in 2006 at OSA’s Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics (FiO), 41 IONS conferences have been held all over the world, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. The meetings are independently managed by OSA Student Chapters and are designed to give young scientists a way to connect and collaborate with the global optics and photonics community. OSA supports IONS events through guest lecturer funding, travel grants, administrative and marketing support and event funding. More information is available on osa.org/ions.
