Alison Taylor Joins The Optical Society as Executive Editor

Alison TaylorWASHINGTON, April 7, 2014—The Optical Society (OSA) announced today that Alison Taylor has joined the OSA Publishing staff as executive editor, where she will manage a portfolio of OSA journals, including its newest journal, Optica, which is set to publish its first issue in July. Taylor will oversee all aspects of Optica, as well as the Journal of the Optical Society of America A, the Journal of the Optical Society of America B, Advances in Optics and Photonics, and Optical Materials Express

“Alison’s extensive editorial expertise, as well as her strong background in optics and scholarly publishing, is a great fit for this new role at OSA,” said Elizabeth Nolan, OSA deputy executive director and chief publishing officer. “With the launch of Optica in July and the continued expansion of OSA’s journal portfolio, Alison’s role as executive editor will be critical to OSA’s continued success as the leading publisher of optics and photonics content worldwide. We look forward to her joining the OSA Publishing team and helping us take our publishing program to the next level.”

Prior to joining OSA, Taylor was director, editorial development for AIP Publishing, where she was responsible for product development and expansion, content creation, market research and analysis, and editorial strategy and operations for several AIP journals.  Before joining AIP Publishing, she worked as an assistant editor for the American Physical Society on Physical Review B and a subset of their prestigious Rapid Communications.

Taylor received her B.Sc. in physics from the University of Strathclyde and her Ph.D. in physics from Heriot-Watt University, both in the United Kingdom.  Her work at Heriot-Watt involved characterizing single-photon-counting devices and systems, such as lab-on-a-chip waveguide detectors.
