OSA Student Members Gather in Mexico for IONS-NA 6 Conference on Optics
WASHINGTON, Aug. 30, 2013–The International OSA Network of Students (IONSTM) will host the IONS-NA 6 Conference at the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education (CICESE) in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Sept. 3-4. The conference, organized by the Mexico OSA Student Chapter, will feature technical sessions and programming for graduate students in the field of optics and photonics. The Optical Society (OSA) sponsors the event. The IONS-NA 6 program includes invited speaker presentations from OSA Vice President Philip Russell of the Max Planck Institute; Steven Cundiff of the University of Colorado; Raúl Rangel Rojo of CICESE and Israel Rocha of CICESE. Additionally, an industrial session by Guillermo Cárdenas Sevilla, Corning Inc., will focus on FTTH – Fiber to the Home!
IONS Conferences allow students from across all disciplines of optics to present their research to fellow young scientists via student-driven discussion in a learning format. Technical talks and poster sessions at IONS-NA 6 will cover topics including tomography, nonlinear optics, and more. More information on the program is available on the IONS website.
Since its inception in 2006 at OSA’s Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics (FiO), 32 IONS Conferences have been held all over the world, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. The meetings are independently managed by OSA Student Chapters and are designed to give young scientists a way to connect and collaborate with the global optics and photonics community. OSA supports IONS events through guest lecturer funding, travel grants, administrative and marketing support and event funding. More information is available on the IONS website.
