The Optical Society Launches Language-Editing and Article-Level Metrics Services for Journal Authors
WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 - The Optical Society (OSA) today announced the launch of two new services for authors submitting to or publishing papers in any of OSA's 15 peer-reviewed journals. A new language-editing service aims to help authors better polish the language in their articles before submitting them for peer-review, and Article-Level Metrics can now be tracked with every published article in OSA's digital library Optics InfoBase. These services are the latest in a series of enhancements OSA has created for its research community, including the ability to create custom journals and alerts, to take advantage of expanded search options in Optics InfoBase, and to view HTML article versions via their mobile devices.

"Cutting-edge research is taking place in every corner of the world and these two new programs allow our authors to better share their work with a wider audience regardless of language differences, and see firsthand how widespread their research is being disseminated."
Language-Editing Service
Of the thousands of papers published by OSA each year, 78 percent of these papers originate from authors outside the United States. Through the new language editing service, authors will have the option to have native English speakers, certified to edit optics and photonics content, edit their articles prior to journal submission. Editing options range from basic spelling, grammar and sentence structure editing, to a premium service including language tips, multiple-round editing, and cover letter writing.
Article-Level Metrics
The Article-Level Metrics service has been added to the user tools section of Optics InfoBase. The feature allows researchers to track abstract views and article downloads of OSA-published papers. Downloads are tracked using the previous month's activity via the industry COUNTER standard, and statistics are shown for a rolling 13-month activity period. This feature is designed to allow authors to better review and understand how their work is being received by their peers. A sample of a paper with Article-Level Metrics is available on Optics InfoBase (click on the "Metrics" tab).
