OSA Congress on Research in Optical Science to Collocate with
Laser Optics Berlin

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17—The Optical Society (OSA) today announced a new partnership with Messe Berlin in which the OSA Congress on Research in Optical Science will be collocated with Laser Optics Berlin in Berlin, Germany in 2012. The OSA Congress, which will replace the Laser Optics Congress traditionally held at Laser Optics Berlin, will feature programming on the physics and applications of high field sources, new and rapidly developing field of structure research in the ultrafast domain and developments in quantum information and computing. The OSA Congress and Laser Optics Berlin will take place March 19 – 21, 2012 at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

Highlights of the OSA Congress on Research in Optical Science include:

  • High-Intensity Lasers & High-Field Phenomena (HILAS)
    • Chairs: Andrius Baltuska, TU Vienna, Austria; John Dudley, UniversitéFranche-Comté, France
  • 2nd International Conference on Ultrafast Structural Dynamics (ICUSD)
    • Chairs: Thomas Elsaesser, Max Born Institute, Germany; Majed Chergui, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland
  • International Conference on Quantum Information (ICQI)
    • Chairs: Robert Boyd, University of Ottawa, Canada and University of Rochester, USA; Alexander Sergienko, Boston University, USA

“OSA is pleased to form this partnership with Messe Berlin and provide a more comprehensive program for attendees,” said OSA President Christopher Dainty. “OSA Congresses bring together top researchers in specialized optics fields to discuss and share the latest research on a variety of topics. Coupling the program with Laser Optics Berlin, which takes place in a core region of the European optics industry, will only enhance that experience.”

OSA Optics and Photonics Congresses are groups of established and new topical meetings designed to retain the collegial settings of OSA topical meetings and provide richer experiences for networking, information sharing and discussion across the disciplines of optical science and engineering. The Congresses also offer opportunities for special events including plenary sessions, symposia, short courses and joint exhibits.

Laser Optics Berlin exhibitions take place every two years in Berlin, Germany. In 2010, Laser Optics Berlin attracted more than 2,800 visitors and 134 exhibitors.

About OSA
Uniting more than 106,000 professionals from 134 countries, the Optical Society (OSA) brings together the global optics community through its programs and initiatives. Since 1916 OSA has worked to advance the common interests of the field, providing educational resources to the scientists, engineers and business leaders who work in the field by promoting the science of light and the advanced technologies made possible by optics and photonics. OSA publications, events, technical groups and programs foster optics knowledge and scientific collaboration among all those with an interest in optics and photonics.
