Corning Student Paper Competition Finalists Announced
WASHINGTON, Feb. 28 —The OSA Foundation and Corning Incorporated today announced the finalists of the Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition, which recognizes future leaders in optical communications. The winners will be recognized during this year’s Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) to be held March 6 – 10 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The six Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition finalists were selected from more than 380 submissions. Competition submissions were reviewed and scored by the OFC/NFOEC technical program committee and 22 semi-finalists were selected based on standard OFC/NFOEC paper review criteria. The Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition review committee, comprised of the OFC/NFOEC general chairs and program chairs, selected the finalists and will view their presentations at OFC/NFOEC to determine the winners. Finalists will be judged based on innovation, research excellence and presentation skills. The grand-prize winner will receive $1,500, and two papers of honorable mention will receive $1,000 each.
The Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition has consistently highlighted some of the brightest young minds across the globe in this field, and this year’s competition has certainly lived up to that reputation,” said Chuck Joyner one of this year’s OFC/NFOEC program chairs. “The students here are providing insight and innovation into the world of optical communications that demonstrates knowledge and understanding that far exceeds expectations. We congratulate all of the finalists and look forward to their paper presentations.”
