OSA's OpticsForKids Website Receives Silver Honors Award from the Parents' Choice Foundation
WASHINGTON, June 3 – The Optical Society’s (OSA) website for youth education, OpticsForKids.org, was recently awarded Silver Honors from the Parents’ Choice Foundation for the spring of 2010. The Parents’ Choice Foundation serves to help parents make informed decisions about appropriate products for their children. The Parents' Choice Silver Honors are given to excellent products that are designed to entertain and help children develop universally ethical attitudes, and rigorous standards and skills.
OpticsForKids.org features an expansive array of educational tools, activities such as an optics timeline, optical illusions, a career assessment tool, experiments for children of all ages and much more. The website also seeks to provide comprehensive optics and photonics resources for pre-college students, educators and parents.
“OSA is continually striving to engage the minds of our future scientists through fun and interactive programs like the OpticsForKids.org website,” said Elizabeth Rogan, OSA CEO. “Recognition from the Parents’ Choice Foundation is an honor not only for OSA, but all of our volunteers who helped us create and maintain this website.”
This is the second time OpticsForKids.org has received an award from the Parents’ Choice Foundation. OpticsForKids.org was reviewed for the award by a diverse panel consisting of parents, scientists, educators, librarians, performing artists and kids. The Parents’ Choice Foundation reviews products on a number of criteria such as entertainment, education quality and the ability to bring children and adults together for a multifaceted learning experience. The panel’s review of OpticsForKids.org is available on the Parents’ Choice Foundation’s website.
