Optical Society of America Launches New Design, Features for WORKinOPTICS.com Career Web Site

WASHINGTON, June 14 — The Optical Society of America (OSA) has unveiled a new design and features for its career services Web site, WORKinOPTICS.com. In addition to new graphic elements that introduce a new look and feel, enhanced features, including top navigation, an upgraded job and resume formatting tool and additional search options, have been added to make the site more intuitive and simpler to use.

"WORKinOPTICS has long been a career benefit for the optics and photonics community," said Elizabeth Rogan, OSA's executive director. "The new features of the site now will make it easier for employers to tailor their searches and identify targeted, high-quality candidates for open positions. And job seekers will be able to post their resumes and navigate the site with greater speed."

In addition to services like complimentary resume posting and job alerts that historically have been available to all job seekers, now those posting their resumes will benefit from a new formatting feature that simplifies the resume submission process. This easy-to-use format negates the need for HTML coding for bolded or italicized words, working more like Microsoft Word for the user and ensuring the resume formatting posts exactly as it was intended.

For employers, a new question on citizenship and visa status has been added to the job seeker profile. The goal is for hiring companies to be able to search by the new field and receive more robust information regarding job seeker work permissions prior to contacting the individual.

Further enhancements to the site are slated for the near-term. In the next month, a version of WORKinOPTICS.com will be launched in German, with expanded content and functionality readied by fall. Additionally, by year's end, a career resources section that includes tips on interviewing and resume writing will be added to the main WORKinOPTICS.com site (http://www.workinoptics.com/).

WORKinOPTICS.com is a leading industry career resource that houses more than 400 job openings and 800 industry professional resumes. Hiring companies include Spectra-Physics Lasers, Ocean Optics, Teledyne Scientific and Imaging, Raydiance and The Photonics Group, among many others. Resumes and advertised positions represent all areas of experience, from students to executive-level professionals.
