The OSA officers each possess outstanding records of scientific achievement in the field of optics and distinguished service. The time and effort given by OSA's elected representatives provide a strong foundation for the Society's future.
Each year, the membership of the Society elects a Vice President and three Directors at Large to the Board of Directors. Each officer serves a term of one year, with the Vice President automatically progressing to President-Elect, President, and immediate Past President over a period of four years. Directors at Large serve three-year terms. The Treasurer is chosen by the Board of Directors from the voting members of the Society. The Chief Executive Officer serves at the pleasure of the Board.
Election for 2014 Offices: Optical Society members have elected Alan E. Willner of the University of Southern California, USA, as its 2014 Vice President. Willner's four-year term will include service as President-Elect in 2015, President in 2016, and Immediate Past President in 2017. Three Directors at Large were also chosen during this year's election: Anne Tropper of the University of Southampton, UK; Adam Wax of Duke University, USA; and Xi-Cheng Zhang of the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester, USA. They will serve three-year terms on the OSA Board of Directors beginning 1 January 2014 and concluding 31 December 2016. The election opened on 25 June 2013 and ended on 13 September 2013.
