The Contest: What Will You Do for IYL 2015?
Accepting Entries 1 June - 31 July 2014 on Facebook
2015 is the International Year of Light. What will you do to highlight the importance of light and optical technologies in our world? Submit your idea of how you would participate in the International Year of Light (IYL 2015). Three winners will receive $500 each to make their ideas happen.
Submit a video or photo to introduce yourself and your idea. Then, provide a written explanation of your idea in the text box provided.
The possibilities are endless. Maybe you will host an event in your community, or provide optics education supplies to your local school. Maybe you will create a game, mobile app, or video to distribute on the web. Maybe you will build a display for a local museum or art exhibition.
When submitting your idea, please keep the judging criteria in mind. Each idea will be judged by a panel of OSA staff and scientific advisors. We will evaluate your idea for the following:
Alignment. How well does your idea support the goal of IYL by highlighting the importance of light and optical technologies in our world?
Quality. Does your idea correctly and effectively present any scientific information or other facts?
Creativity. Is your idea a creative way to participate in IYL 2015?
Reach. How many people will learn about light and optics as a result of your idea?
Popularity. How many votes did your idea receive during the voting period?
If you win, post a picture of your idea in action on OSA’s Facebook page during 2015.
