The U.S. Air Force Research Lab seeks proposals for Space-Based Advanced Sensing and Protection Branch

Synopsis: The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space-Based Advanced Sensing and Protection Branch is interested in receiving proposals under future CALLS from all offerors to conduct research and development of space payload technologies including phenomenology, advanced focal plane components and arrays, cryogenic systems, passive and active surveillance, and protection capabilities for contemporary and future space systems. The technologies developed under this solicitation will provide affordable and reliable solutions for the next generation of Air Force space systems. Development efforts that are proposed should enable or substantially facilitate the mission goals of the AFRL and/or the Space and Missile Center (SMC).
A Pilot Implementation of an Innovative Lighting Solution Based on (O)LED Technologies

The Information Society and Media Directorate of the European Commission is accepting proposals to sponsor the "SSL Pilot," a pilot action to install innovative lighting solutions based on Solid State Light (SSL) technologies (LEDs and/or OLEDS) on the ground floor of the Berlaymont building, headquarters of the European Commission, in Brussels. While promoting SSL, the pilot is also meant to reflect European technologies. Lighting may include ceiling, wall, or decorative. Specific requirements, as well as selection criteria and implementation steps, can be found online. A maximum of three sponsors may be selected. Interested potential sponsors may visit the area of the Berlaymont building on 17 April 2012.

Long Range BAA for Navy and Marine Corps Science and Technology

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is seeking proposals for Long-Range Science and Technology Projects, which includes basic research, applied research, and advanced technology development in a variety of science and engineering fields. Teams are encouraged to apply, and recipients will receive awards in the form of contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, and other transaction agreements. ONR's current program areas include: Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare and Combating Terrorism Department; Command, Control Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance; Ocean Battlespace Sensing; Warfighter Performance; and Naval Air Warfare and Weapons. East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students

The East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) is looking for science and engineering graduate students interested in gaining research experience in Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan. In an effort to build relationships that will enhance future scientific collaboration, these programs teach students not only about science but about the culture and language of these countries as well. European Union Announces 7 billion Euro in Research Funding

Synopsis: The funding is part of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) which is the latest phase of the Innovation Union strategy. The strategy is designed to "ensure Europe is well equipped to take on fierce global competition from emerging markets by tackling its 'innovation deficit'." The latest round of funding focuses on energy including photovoltaic and concentrated solar in addition to Information and Communication Technologies.
