Peter Delfyett (University of Central Florida, CREOL) and Anthony Johnson (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) served as Best Poster Presentation judges on behalf of the Optical Society (OSA) and SPIE at the Joint Meeting of the National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP) and the National Society of Hispanic Physicists (NSHP), last month in Austin, Texas.

New Enterprise Associates venture partner and former Sun Microsystems CTO Greg Papadopoulos is set to give a keynote presentation at the plenary session of the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC), taking place in Los Angeles March 4–8, 2012. Papadopoulos will speak on the topic "How to Design and Build Your Very Own Exascale Computer."

OSA Elects Philip H. Bucksbaum as 2012 Vice President

The Optical Society (OSA) is pleased to announce that its members have elected Philip H. Bucksbaum of Stanford University as its 2012 vice president. Three directors at large were also chosen during this year's election: James D. Kafka of Spectra-Physics, Byoung Yoon Kim of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and Jun Ye of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology and the University of Colorado.
OSA's WORKinOPTICS Website Launches New Internship Gateway

The Optical Society (OSA) today announced the launch of a new "Internship Gateway" to its job board website, WORKinOPTICS.com. The site, which already helps connect optics and photonics companies to job seekers, will provide a new path for students to gain real-world experience in their chosen fields.

The Optical Society Mourns the Loss of Anthony E. Siegman

The Optical Society (OSA) today expresses its condolences at the loss of Anthony "Tony" Siegman, an OSA Fellow Emeritus and 1999 OSA president. Siegman, who was well-known and liked in the laser science community died Oct. 7 at his home in Stanford, Calif. He was 79.
