OSA, along with OIDA, recently offered a unique opportunity for its members to participate in Congressional Visits Day (CVD) – a great way to make your voice heard on issues such as funding for scientific research and development by visiting directly with your elected officials in Washington, D.C.

The event will took place March 4 and 5, 2008 in Washington, D.C.  An orientation session was held in the morning March 4 at OSA headquarters in Washington, D.C.  That afternoon, participants met up with the other 250 scientists and engineers from other scientific societies for a briefing and training at AAAS in D.C.  Visits to Capitol Hill offices took place March 5.   OSA scheduled all appointments and provided background and talking points for participants.   CVD is an annual event sponsored by the Science-Engineering-Technology Working Group, of which OSA is a member.

CVD is a great way for you, a scientist-constituent, to advocate directly for issues like increased support and increased funding for:

  • Department of Defense research
  • NSF
  • NIST
  • Department of Energy research
  • Science, technology, engineering, and math education

For more information, please contact OSA’s Government Relations Team at public-policy@osa.org or 202.416.1443.  For more details on the event, visit www.setcvd.org.
