Program Overview
Covers all aspects of solid state lighting ranging from device physics to the design of efficient luminaire optics. Reviews advances in solid state lighting in materials, devices and equipment.
Highly efficient inorganic semiconductor devices have become competitive lighting sources with demonstrated efficiencies of more than100 lm/W for white light generation.
While inorganic LEDs are expected to be the dominating point light sources, organic devices (OLEDs) may play a major role as area light sources, given lifetime and efficiency improvements. Progress in solid state lighting relies on advances in material science, device packaging and light management and this meeting reports on the latest progress in these areas.
Topic categories to be discussed include:
- LEDs:
- LED growth, internal efficiency, droop
- Light extraction (incl. nanostructures, photonic crystals, surface plasmons)
- Novel device designs, modeling of LEDs
- Novel substrates and materials
- Phosphors, white LEDs, new concepts for high-quality white
- Color metrics and standardization for white LEDs
- Thermal management
